Within Radboud University, The Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (DI) is a world-class research centre devoted to understanding the mechanistic underpinnings of human cognition and behaviour in health and disease. The Institute is home to more than 600 researchers from 35 countries who share the common goal of contributing to the advancement of the brain-, cognitive- and behavioural sciences through investigator-driven research, and improving health, education, and technology by applying advances in this field.

The “Synthetic Perceptive, Emotive and Cognitive Systems (SPECS)” group led by Prof. Paul Verschure is a multidisciplinary research group focusing its research activities to study and synthesise the neuronal, psychological, and behavioural principles underlying perception, emotion, and cognition. SPECS mission is to understand mind, brain, and behaviour through constructing synthetic perceptive, emotive, and cognitive systems. SPECS performs interdisciplinary research in the domains of technology, cognitive science, and humanities, and has a long-standing tradition in the domains of computational neuroscience, cognitive science, and interactive systems. SPECS works on the neuronal, psychological, and computational principles of perception, emotion, cognition, and behaviour. The basic knowledge gained in these studies is transferred to a new class of real-world artefacts ranging from robots, interactive installations and computer games to intelligent buildings and mixed reality interactive media.
