Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (SSSA) is a public university whose mission is to address excellence in both education and research in engineering, medicine, agriculture, economics, management, law and political science. Research and innovation activities of this project will be carried out at The BioRobotics Institute (T-BRI, http://sssa.bioroboticsinstitute.it, founded by Prof. Paolo Dario), one of the six institutes in which SSSA research portfolio is divided into. T-BRI is a centre with more than 200 researchers carrying out cutting-edge research in biorobotics. With a strong impact in innovation, it is a high-tech park in Pontedera, Pisa, Italy, occupying a surface of 6,300 square metres and equipped with advanced facilities for design and fabrication of any custom component relevant to biorobotics developments. It is both producing high-quality research and technology transfer actions to the benefit of industry and various communities of end users. With time the Institute has built a wealth of knowledge and expertise in several fields of biorobotics and bionics, such as medical robotics, wearable technologies, collaborative robotics, bio-inspired robotics, neuroscience robotics, rehabilitation robotics and implantable technologies. The Wearable Robotics Laboratory (WRL) of Prof. Nicola Vitiello and Prof. Simona Crea will be involved in this project (https://www.santannapisa.it/it/wearable-robotics-laboratory).

SSSA will lead the work packages WP4 (“Agile hardware design”) and WP7 (“Integration and Implementation”). Indeed, SSSA will be responsible for the design and development of the powered glove for hand assistance, as well as of the whole hardware integration process. SSSA will significantly contribute to the development of the shared control architecture.
